Texas CAN! Academies

TEXANS CAN! has nine high schools under its umbrella in five Texas cities. Chartered by the State of Texas, these public high schools recover academically at-risk youth who have either dropped out or at risk of dropping out of school. TEXANS CAN! is fully certified to award both high school diplomas and GED's (General Educational Development certificate). The year-round curriculum is offered tuition-free.

TEXANS CAN! is a school of choice that offers small, half-day, classes. Each student attends this open-enrollment public school on a voluntary basis. A solid focus on creating a nurturing environment where learning can take place makes the TEXANS CAN! model unique. The model includes a strong counseling program with a 35 to 1 student to counselor ration and an 18 to 1 student to teacher ratio. The curriculum allows academies to provide individual assessment for each student and a customized program that enables them to catch-up.

Surveys of graduates show that about 67% of graduates go on to higher education, including community colleges, technical/trade schools and four year colleges. More than 16% get jobs after graduation and over 5% join a branch of military service.
