Job Corps
Program Description:
Job corps is the nation's largest and most comprehensive
residential, education and job training program for youth ages 16-24.
Eligibility:
Be at least 16 and not yet 25 years of age at the time of enrollment.
Be a United States citizen, a United States National, a lawfully admitted permanent resident alien, refugee, asylee or parolee, or other alien who is authorized by the Attorney General to work in the United States.
Be a low income individual.
Be an individual who is one of more of the
following:
* A school dropout
An individual who requires additional education, vocational training, or intensive career counseling and related assistance in order to participate successfully in regular schoolwork or to secure and hold employment
Basic skills deficient
Homeless, runaway, or a foster child / parent
Have signed consent from a parent or guardian if the applicant is a minor.
Be free of behavior problems that would prohibit self or others from benefiting from the program; must be free of face-to-face court or institutional supervision or court- imposed fines while in Job Corps.
Not be currently engaged in illegal drug use.
Have a child care plan if the applicant has a dependent child.
Show commitment and capability to participate successfully in Job Corps and gain the benefits of the program.

requirements and have a designated local liaison who can help work
through difficult issues. TRAC staff can also make referrals to other
appropriate service providers.
There are over 118 Job Corps campuses located throughout the United

Texas has four programs, in Laredo, El Paso, San Marcos and McKinney
(just north of Dallas). The North Texas Job Corps Center in McKinney can
serve 310 men and 340 women. Its vocational offerings include:
Accounting Clerk, Brick Mason, Business and Office Technology,
Carpentry, Computers, Culinary Arts, Desktop Publishing, Facilities
Maintenance, Electrical, Hotel/Motel Hospitality, Landscaping,
Lithographic Printing, Nursing Aide, Painting, Plumbing, Security, and
Warehousing/Material Handler.
