Presbyterian Night Shelter of Tarrant County

Program Description:

The Mission of the Presbyterian Night Shelter is to provide for the needs of the homeless while respecting their dignity. We are a shelter of last resort – a sanctuary without cost to anyone in need. When the current building opened in 1987, we were housing around 300 people per night.  As the only free emergency shelter in Tarrant County, demand for our services continues to grow.  This last year the Presbyterian Night Shelter housed an average of 660 people with over 900 sleeping here on some cold nights.

The Night Shelter meets the basic needs (shelter, food, hygiene items, assistance with clothing, and minor case management) of 400 to 750 homeless, men and women each day.

The Lowdon-Schutts Building is a shelter for homeless mothers and their children. The facility houses 100 children and mothers in a combination of open dorm space and thirteen private rooms.  There is also a commons area for group activities and educational programs, as well as a casual dining room where three meals are served each day. The children have their own bright and cheery play area, which includes a library and computer lab.
