Association for Independent Living

Program:
Transitional Living Program for young adults with a mental retardation diagnosis.

Program Description:

Program participants initially live in a dormitory with the possibility of transitioning to on-site apartments. Participants are required to maintain employment and pay a monthly fee to receive housing and meals.

AFIL provides training within a residential setting to allow the young adults to naturally develop the essentials of everyday living. They learn cooking, cleaning, laundering and shopping, as well as handling money and check writing. They are also taught the value of time-management and work ethics.
