Program:
Transitional Living Program for young adults with a
mental retardation diagnosis.
Program Description:
Program participants initially live in a dormitory with the possibility
of transitioning to on-site apartments. Participants are required to
maintain employment and pay a monthly fee to receive housing and meals.
AFIL provides
training within a residential setting to allow the young adults to
naturally develop the essentials of everyday living. They learn cooking,
cleaning, laundering and shopping, as well as handling money and check
writing. They are also taught the value of time-management and work
ethics.
Eligibility:
Ages 18 to 30.
Psychiatric
diagnosis of mental retardation based upon IQ of below 70.
Capable of
maintaining employment and progressing on to independent living.
The parents/guardians of all applicants must live in the DFW area.
Dallas facility is located near Bachman Lake.
